Who We Are

Who is Cypress Brake?

Founded in 2022, Cypress Brake Investments is a family run business led by Matt, his partner Trevor, and Matt’s father and sister, Larry and Krista. Named after one of their favorite local spots at the Pigeon Creek Park on Lake Norfork, where a brake of tall bald cypress trees line the edge of the lake, Matt and Trevor launched the brand as a way to share what they enjoy about Mountain Home and the North Central Arkansas region.

Originally from Iowa, Matt’s family had moved to the Mountain Home area in the 1990s and he had grown up there until moving away for school in 2005. After finishing training in Chicago in 2019, Matt moved back to Mountain Home to be near family. In late 2021, Trevor moved from Northwest Arkansas to join him there. A few months later, Matt was approached by a banker who he had worked with on his own home about buying an investment property. It was a unique opportunity; an acre of major highway frontage with two buildings currently being used as long-term rentals (and an old shed) in between the city limits of Gassville and Mountain Home. Though the buildings had been through a number of residential and commercial roles in their past, they were in need of major renovations to be habitable and were definitely going to require some vision from whoever took them on. After talking it over as a group, the Cypress Brake team decided to buy the property and try to fix the houses up to serve as rentals. From March 2022 through March of 2023 they put in thousands of hours of elbow grease, a lot of sweat, and likely some blood and tears, and managed to complete about 90% of the work themselves all while still working their normal full time jobs. Their first projects, The Prairie House and The Fishing Shack, went live in April of 2023, and we hope there will be more to come.

We’re just getting started, but we hope you enjoy our work and your visit to Mountain Home.
